Robert Burda was born in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany, in 1942. The warmth and security of his childhood home in Bremen-Blumenthal were a formative influence. Even in his childhood, he spent a lot of time painting. Over and over again, Burda drew the vehicles of Bremen’s bus service with extreme precision - fascinated by their technical development. He often works for weeks and months, sometimes even years, on particular pictures. Occasionally he searches out completed works years later and works on them again. He carries on overpainting some areas of pictures until they precisely correspond to what he had in mind.
