Adolf Beutler was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1935. He never went to school. When twelve years old, Beutler was admitted to a psychiatric clinic, where he lived for over 50 years. It was only at the age 61 that Beutler began his artistic work in the art workshop of Berliner Mosaik gGmbH. The artist often works on his pictures for several months, covering the entire surface with a delicate line drawing, turning the picture into an object. The sheets or wood panels are usually painted on both sides.
